- 🤔 $1.4 million could ruin your career
🤔 $1.4 million could ruin your career
She got 10X that number
She was pissed.
“Why can’t I call them out on this?!”
“There’s millions in revenue not being collected. It’s not good,” she continued.
“I know you want to make some changes on your team but calling them out for this could seriously backfire on you.”
5 questions I posed to her:
1 - What if someone above you is aware of this but doesn’t want to upset the status quo?
2 - What if someone below you has the voice of the team and you don’t?
3 - Do you know what the tangible drivers are for your direct boss?
4 - What will it do to your team chemistry if you make an order to them and it isn’t followed?
5 - Does calling your team out solve the problem or create new problems?
She had the obvious question, “Why would leadership not want to know that we’re missing out on revenue?”
“Someone might be comfortable with the money they have and don’t want to risk that.
You’re probably correct. They all want to make more money and perform well. But it is very possible that someone above you is ok with coasting by.”
That got her to pause because she’d seen this occur frequently since the pandemic.
We came up with the following plan:
1 - Scope the problem into a solution that builds towards a common purpose across the organization.
2 - Identify a trusted colleague(s) on other teams to vent your idea.
3 - Adapt your course of action.
Results
1 - She is now having direct conversations with the CEO.
2 - She is now on the radar of several executive leaders.
3 - She has allies on multiple teams.
4 - She has decreased the risk of losing her team chemistry.
5 - She learned about new revenue streams that are coming into the company.
She is in negotiations for a sizable salary increase and a higher place on the org chart.
Business is chaos.
Teams organize the chaos.
Ask your team about the chaos in their world.
The network effects will change people's lives.
