🌦 4am...Are you glad to be here?

There's a rumor...

When Derrick Henry (NFL running back) played college football for Nick Saban at the University of Alabama, he told Coach Saban every morning at 4 a.m., "Glad to be here coach."

That's the rumor anyhow.

It's probably true.

And I bet a lot of athletes say this out loud or to themselves every day.

Most of my mornings start at 4 a.m., and I groggily remind myself of why I'm doing things because it helps peel me off of the cool sheets that cover my skin. I think about the precious moments that are either invested or wasted.

And when my why is feeling a little weak, I think about people who have more struggles than I do.

• I think about all of the soldiers that wake up each morning to train for freedom. The moments they're sacrificing for themselves, for me, and for a much bigger purpose than I can properly fathom.

• I think about my friend who has cancer that is struggling with potentially a small amount of numbered moments left.

• I think about how my dad lost his father somewhere short of the age of 45 and how that event caused my dad to spend the next 10 years of his precious moments essentially in an all-out sprint to serve his various purposes.

I don't think about these people because I plan to save the world with my good intentions.

I'm not omniscient. I wish I was. It's why superheroes are such lucrative franchises. We all wish we could be omnipotent.

I think about those people because I believe that if everyone focuses on their moments and what they can provide then we all can benefit.

But I want to carry my own weight.

Do you know what it takes to carry your own weight?

You don't need to sacrifice anything.

You just need to be selfish enough to focus on the purpose(s) you serve.

Do not waste your moments. BTW, resting is not wasting yourself but investing in yourself.

Are you glad to be here or are you just here?
