🚦 Improving your life through parking

In The Process #42, I mentioned people told me I was full of sh*t "for parking in the back of parking lots."

I first got the idea when I saw people fighting over a parking spot near the front of a gym. People were circling the front 2 lanes of a mall parking lot so they could park close to the front door of an L.A. Fitness. Meanwhile, there were scores of parking spaces towards the back of the mall.

The irony was too great to me. And I wondered how much gym time was being missed fighting over this stupid spot. So I started parking in the back of parking lots (or at least not fighting for a spot) to see how it changed my outlook on life.

What it teaches me...

  • To slow down and be present. Instead of rushing out the door for anything. Be present in the moments you have so you can experience and remember more. I try to get everywhere early instead of the scheduled time.

  • To be thankful. I wonder how many people wish they could walk without the aid of a prosthetic or breathing device. I get out of my car, walk and work my muscles.

  • To think big. Most people feel accomplished when they get a good parking spot. There was a whole episode of Seinfeld about it. Hell, it's actually a recurring theme throughout the series for George's character. Deon Cole even says black people, "Thank Jesus," for good parking.

I'll know I'm having a bad week when getting a great parking spot is my biggest accomplishment of any 1 day.

When you're focused on being a pro you...

  • Set a vision.

  • Work towards a purpose.

  • Prioritize your energy.

Parking is just one the many things that stop mattering to you.
