πŸͺ¨ Staring At Rocks

Today 3 rocks looked at me πŸ‘€and ran

I'm not crazy.

Well, that's probably not 100% true.

But these rocks kept looking at me.

I swear in on my kids' lives.

1 rock was the size of my fist.

2 rocks were about the size of my thumbnail.

I couldn't look away.

You know that feeling when you just know someone's eyes are gazing upon you?

That's what I had.

Only I felt it from 3 different angles.

And then I realized...

It was because the rocks were alive.

The rocks were actually crabs.

I was standing on the edge of a small cliff on a beach in the middle of the island of Kona in Hawai'i.

The crabs I had taken on the shape of the rocks amongst the shallow three-foot pool below the rock I was standing on.

When I moved my foot, the rocks moved because they thought...Well, I don't know what they thought. I'm not an effing crab, but I assume they were scared of me.

Traditionally, I think of crabs as the big reddish-orange ones you eat or like a hermit crab with a snail shell on top. But these crabs had literally grown rocks where their shells were supposed to be.

There is no "right and wrong"...

One thing I absolutely adore about evolution is that there is no "right and wrong." There is just the ability to survive and advance.

Crabs adapt to their surroundings to protect their soft bodies.

Crabs are the hippie vegans of the crustacean world. "Forget the rules man. I need to live," said every crab ever as they point their claws up ready to strike with almost no force.

But one thing crabs know is how to stay alive.

When the rules aren't defined in the game, and don't lie to yourself, there are no rules in business.

When I say "business," I don't mean a "PR firm" like "insert publicly-traded company here."

I mean a business where every day is survival. Where the name of the game is "cash flow." (Well, until you have more money than you need in any given year, then the game changes to being a "PR firm" but that's another post. πŸ˜€)

In basketball, there are rules.

In chess, there are rules. I mean the game is literally black and white.

In golf, there are rules...kind of.

In the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kona, there are no rules.

In business, there are no rules.

Rock up and do what you have to survive and advance.

#AdaptOrDie

BTW, the evolution of crabs is very complicated. You can read about it here: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/how-did-crabs-evolve-crabbiness-complicated
